Bengaluru · Family jewellers since 1974

Every number, before you walk in.

The rate, the purity, the weight and the making charge. Four numbers every customer asks for and most shops make you ask for. Ours are on this page, next to every piece.

A 22 carat gold necklace with a stone-set centrepiece, lying on dark green velvet.
Stone-set Necklace · 22K · BIS 916 ·24.800 g net, 26.100 g gross
Its full breakdown, and every other piece’s, is below.

Today at the counter

Today’s rate

Posted each morning when the market opens, and it is the only number every price on this page is built from. If it is more than a day old, this page stops quoting prices and asks you to call instead.

22 carat · BIS 916

Chains, bangles, bridal. What most of this shop is made of.

18 carat · BIS 750

Harder. Used where a stone has to be held in a claw setting.

How a price is worked out

  1. 1

Gold value — today’s rate multiplied by the weight of the piece.

  2. 2

Making charge — a percentage of that gold value. The percentage is printed next to every piece on this page.

  3. 3

Stone charge — on set pieces only, a fixed rupee amount for the stones. It is stated in full and it does not move when gold moves. Plain gold pieces do not have this line at all.

  4. 4

GST — 3% of everything above added together, as the law requires.

That is the entire calculation. There is no separate wastage charge and no handling fee at the till. If a shop quotes you one all-in figure and will not split it into those parts, one of them is being hidden.

Twelve pieces

The collection

Every piece is photographed under the same light on the same green velvet, so you can compare them against each other rather than against the photography. Open any one to see exactly what makes up its price.

Kasu Malai, three row

22K · BIS 916 · 62.400 g · making 11%

Ninety-six struck coins on three strands, each one soldered to its own jump ring. Sized by removing coins from the ends, not by cutting the chain.

Heavy Link Chain, 22 inch

22K · BIS 916 · 46.800 g · making 9%

Articulated Pendant

22K · BIS 916 · 14.600 g · making 16%

Twenty-three graduated segments, each filed and pinned by hand so the whole length flexes. The head terminal is cast and soldered on. You can see in the photograph where the sixteen per cent went.

18K · BIS 750 · 6.900 g · making 18%

A different kind of visit

Bridal sets

Bridal is bought once, planned for months, and usually decided by more than one person. The weights are large enough that a single percentage point of making charge is worth thousands, which is exactly why ours is printed here.

A complete 22 carat gold kundan bridal set — necklace, earrings, maang tikka and bangles — laid on a red thali.

Kundan Bridal Set

22K · BIS 916 · 138.400 g · making 15%

Necklace, jhumkas, maang tikka and two bangles. Kundan is set by pressing pure gold foil around each stone, which is why the making charge is what it is.

Nakshi Kundan Haram

22K · BIS 916 · 96.300 g · making 16%

An 18 carat gold polki bridal necklace with uncut diamonds, ruby beads and moonstone drops, with matching earrings, on black velvet.

Polki Bridal Set

18K · BIS 750 · 68.500 g · making 18%

Necklace and earrings, set in 18K because polki needs the harder metal to hold a closed setting. The uncut diamonds are natural and priced per stone, not by weight — they come to nearly as much as the gold, which is why that figure is printed on its own line below.

Sets are made to order. Allow eleven weeks for the heaviest, six for the others, and book a fitting before the final polish. Weights shift by a gram or two between the quote and the finished piece; you are charged for what it actually weighs, up or down.

The number every shop hides

Making charges, explained

This is the figure that actually differs between us and the shop down the road. It is the one you should compare on, so here is ours and here is how it works.

A making charge is what you pay for turning gold into a piece. It covers the bench work, the metal lost when gold is cut, drawn and soldered, and our margin. It is not a fee added on top of a fair price — it is the price of the work.

Ours run from 9% to 18% of the gold value. The exact figure is printed next to every piece above.

Why it varies

The plain band ring is9% — it is turned, sized and polished, under an hour at the bench. Thejali cocktail ring is18% because forty-one grain settings were cut and closed by hand in the top of it.

Note what that means: the ring at 18% weighs6.9 g and the one at9% weighs4.2 g. You are paying for time at the bench, not for weight, which is why a heavier piece can cost less to make than a lighter one. The gold is the gold; the difference between two shops is here.

Three things we don’t do

  • We don’t add a separate wastage percentage. Some shops quote a low making charge and then add 8–12% “wastage” when you get to the counter. Ours already includes it. The percentage you read here is the percentage you pay.
  • We don’t quote making charges per gram. Per-gram quoting looks cheap on a light piece and gets expensive quickly on a heavy one. A percentage behaves the same way at every weight, so you can compare two pieces honestly.
  • We don’t hide it inside an inflated gold rate. Our rate is the market rate, posted every morning at the top of this page.

How to compare us with anyone else

Ask three questions: what is your rate per gram today, what is the making charge as a percentage, and is wastage included in it. Write the three numbers down for each shop and the comparison does itself. A shop that answers with a single all-in figure and will not break it into those three is a shop that is hiding one of them.

Purity and the way back out

Hallmarking & buyback

Two things worth knowing before you spend: how to check what you are being sold, and what it is worth when you bring it back.

Hallmarking

Every piece we sell carries a BIS hallmark. Since 1 April 2023 that hallmark must include a HUID — a six-character alphanumeric Hallmark Unique Identification code, laser-marked on the piece itself.

916

22 carat. 916 parts gold per thousand — 91.6%.

750

18 carat. 750 parts per thousand — 75%.

HUID

Six characters, unique to that one piece.

Check it yourself before you pay. Install the BIS CARE app, type in the six characters, and it will show you the assaying centre that tested the piece, the jeweller who registered it and the purity it was tested at. If the app does not recognise a HUID, do not buy the piece — from us or from anyone.

The other 8.4% of a 22K piece is copper and silver. That is not adulteration, it is what makes gold hard enough to wear; pure 24K is too soft to hold a shape and nothing sold as jewellery is made of it.

Buyback terms

Published, because you should be able to see the way out before you go in.

Exchanged for another piece — bought here, with our invoice
100% of that day’s rate for the net gold weight
Cash — bought here, with our invoice
96% of that day’s rate for the net gold weight
Cash — bought elsewhere, BIS hallmarked with a readable HUID
92% of that day’s rate, on our weighing
Cash — bought elsewhere, no hallmark
Fire-assayed first; the tested purity sets the rate. The test consumes about 0.5 g

What we do not pay for

  • The making charge. It was spent on labour and it does not come back. That is true at every shop; we would rather you heard it from us before you buy than from someone else afterwards.
  • Stones, kundan, enamel and lac filling. These are deducted from the gross weight and are not paid for at any rate. It is why we publish net gold weight next to gross on every set piece.

Why the deductions. The 4% we hold back on cash buyback of our own pieces covers melting and assay loss. The 8% on gold bought elsewhere covers the same, plus the risk that a piece is not what its stamp claims.

What to bring. The original invoice and photo ID. For any single transaction of ₹2,00,000 or more, PAN is required by law.

Getting here and parking

We are on the Vasanth Nagar end of 14 Cunningham Road, two doors up from the corner with Millers Road. There are four spaces in the yard behind the shop — ring ahead and we will keep one free. Cubbon Park metro is a twelve-minute walk.

Collecting something valuable

For any collection over ₹5 lakh, please book a time rather than walking in. The strong room is on a timer, and we like to have two people on the counter and the shutter down while you check the weight and the hallmark. It takes twenty minutes and it is worth doing properly.
